Cognitive Function
You or someone you know experiences a delay in recall, or struggles to focus from time to time. Cognitive function complaints, such as these, indicate that sometimes our hippocampus needs a personal trainer to shape up.
Lumosity and fit brains are two of the most famous brain game companies that attempt to tone and strengthen our memory muscle. They do require that we follow consistent and continuous use of their brain exercise programs to achieve results.
With vigilance and dedication, it is thought that
- concentration
- focus
- memory
- problem solving skills
will significantly improve.
Study: Brain Games vs. Brain Function
Studies reveal improvement in memory and focus-related tasks within these brain games, yet results are only slightly different when compared to control groups.
Moreover, the greatest change is demonstrated when subjects are tested on the company-based programs themselves, as opposed to daily tasks such as:
- locating car keys
- recalling names
- concentration while driving
It’s fun to excel at a few games, but isn’t the point of exercise is to be better at real life stuff?
Daily Exercises to Improve Brain Function
Harvard Health Publications speaks on computer games, and the extent of their ability to keep your brain fit. They suggest that better results may be had with daily, regular mental workouts including:
- reading
- playing cards
- completing crossword puzzles
A little old school, but retro never hurt anybody!
